THE SAINTS' AND ANGELS' SONG
By Marianne P.
One of my favourite scripture passages about the Love of God is Romans 8:35-39:
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long;
We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
neither height nor depth, nor anything in all creation,
will be able to separate us from
the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
This passage is meaningful to me as it highlights the constancy of Christ's LOVE. I can testify that God has loved me even though I don't deserve it and has been there for me through the good times (like, the births of my 3 children and 9 grandchildren) and the bad times (like, the loss of my loved ones, including my husband of 40 years, 15 years ago).
I always carry CD's in the car and play them when I'm travelling. I feel God's LOVE and protection so strongly in that small space. When I'm feeling down I play music and it lifts my spirit and I can sense God's LOVE for me.
The following are two of my favourite songs...
This first song was written over a hundred years ago but it encourages us as much today as it did then to it's composer F. M.Lehman.
The Love of God
The love of God is greater far
than tongue or pen can ever tell, It goes beyond the highest star
and reaches to the lowest hell, The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave his Son to win His erring child He reconciled
and pardoned from his sin. When years of time shall pass away
and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall, When men who here refuse to pray,
on rocks and hills and mountains call God's love so sure shall still endure,
all measureless and strong
Redeeming grace to Adam's race
the saints' and angels' song. Could we with ink the oceans fill
and were the skies of parchment made Were every stalk on earth a quill
and every man a scribe by trade To write the love of God above
would drain the oceans dry Nor could the scroll contain the whole though stretched from sky to sky. Chorus Oh love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure,
the saints' and angels' song.
This next song is one of my favourites by George Beverly Shea:
The Wonder of It All There's the wonder of sunset at evening,
the wonder as sunrise I see; But the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul,
is the wonder that God loves me.
There's the wonder of springtime and harvest,
the sky, the stars and the sun; But the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul,
is a wonder that's only begun. Chorus O, the wonder of it all! The wonder of it all! Just to think that God loves me O, the wonder of it all! The wonder of it all! Just to think that God loves me. When I am reminded of His LOVE for me, worship overflows from deep within my heart. I love to sing praise to God and encourage others through song. For more than 40 years I was part of a women's trio called Echoes of Faith. We loved to share the LOVE of God in song at nursing homes, churches and other groups.
Whatever you face in life - no matter how difficult, distressing or heart breaking the situation may be, always remember that God's LOVE is constant and nothing will ever be able to separate you from it. As you are reminded of His incomprehensible and amazing unchanging LOVE for you today, may that LOVE be expressed back to Him through WORSHIP from the overflow of your heart - then, wait and see how He will express that same LOVE through you to the needy in your community.
Marianne resides in Stratford, ON. And when she's not with family, you just might find her helping out at Community Meals (an outreach hosted by her home church) or reconnecting with the many friends she made while working at the House of Blessing, a local organization that reaches out to the needy in the community.
