ONLY JESUS CAN FILL THE VOID
By Ken Powell
Give thanks to the God of heaven,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
A man by the name of Rob Evans wrote a song some years ago titled, “The Donut Song.” Some of the lyrics went like this: “Life without Jesus is like a donut, 'cause there’s a hole in the middle of your heart.” As I have grown older I have come to realize just how much this particular “heart hole” is like the cosmos black hole. The gravitational pull in the cosmos black hole is so great that it sucks everything in its vicinity into the hole.
You see, the human need to fill this hole in their heart creates a kind of vacuum too! It sucks in everything in its vicinity! For some, it is work. For others its gambling. Some use food, drugs (like cocaine) or alcohol, etc. Unfortunately, none of these things provide a permanent and satisfactory solution. The satisfaction that they bring is only temporary.
So the dilemma lies in the Donut Man's song:
Life without Jesus is like a donut,
'cause there's a hole in the middle of your heart.
But when Jesus fills your heart, He satisfies your soul,
like a pastry nugget in the donut hole!
That "hole" is God-sized, friend! The only way for it to be filled is by filling it with God’s Love.
God has written a Love Letter to each of us. It’s called the Bible. The Bible says that God is Love (1 John 4:16). And His Love is made complete when we receive His love, love Him, and love others (1 John 4:7-21).
