NGM October 2019 Update

Updated: Oct 5, 2019

Why We Do What We Do

No Turning Back

A few Sundays ago a B2S Dec 2018 graduate came up to me and said,

”Auntie I don’t understand but I can’t stay away from NGM. Every time I try to leave I feel pulled back. Earlier in the year I went home to apply for a National Registration Card. While there I didn’t even feel like I fit in anymore. I decided to return to NGM but was asked by a family member, ‘Why are you going back? You’ve already finished school.’ I told him that I had left some of my belongings and so needed to get them. And when I did return to get them, I just kept feeling pulled back to NGM when I thought of going home. I want to stay and help with the mission. I feel that if I went back home my friends of the past would influence me for bad. I don’t belong with them any more. I feel safe with NGM.”

That melted my heart. That’s why we do what we do. Reaching out to children and youth with the LOVE of Jesus so that they’ll never want to turn back to their old way of life.

Not that we want to form an unhealthy dependency and have everyone stay with us at the mission forever but that everyone would come to Jesus and choose Him and His Kingdom ways for life! Life eternal!

It’s our desire that NGM in all its various forms (Church, B2S, School) would be a place where children and youth come to Jesus and are discipled and loved. A warm place of healing, restoration and of hope for a bright future in Christ.

Through the Fire

In light of NGM’s current context it's obvious that that young man’s words were genuine and from the heart. Really, in the natural, we don’t have a lot to offer at this moment. This past year with the selling of the land, all the transitions, and, a decrease in support, there’s been a lot of shaking up.

It's like NGM has been through the flood, the fire and the Father’s hand. We’ve been purged, purified and pruned - although very difficult at times - it’s all in knowing that we will come out stronger and more fruitful and effective than ever before.

What was drawing that young man even in the midst of all the chaos of transition? I believe it was the Holy Spirit because of what He has in store for him and NGM.

Perfect Timing

In September we were asked by GCF to rewrite our proposed 2019 budget to be more realistic and suiting to our current financial status. Our agent commented - “that is, unless you think you’ll be getting a big gift within the next few months or so.”

We wanted to answer with joyous anticipation, “We’re always expecting big gifts!” We didn’t though and just sent the revised budget in alone.

Then, that very day, we happened to check our account with GCF and discovered that there was a big huge gift!!!

It was from another organization we had never heard of before. We thought GCF had encouraged them to give to us because of our need. When we asked about it they told us that the gift was from someone’s family fund and was strategically directed to NGM via the other organization. What a special and very generous surprise! It definitely has resulted in much praise to God!

And it came in perfect timing - the “He makes all things beautiful in His time” kind of timing! It was a sign God used to encourage us to keep on doing what we are doing.

To run a mission in light of the huge harvest - to want to help children and youth with food, accommodation and schooling as an opportunity to bring them to Jesus - is an exciting and enormous task with all the potential it holds. Because there is so much more that we can do to maximize our outreach for the furtherance of His Kingdom, GCF is encouraging us to make a special call out for more gifts, especially more recurring monthly donations. GCF isn't alone in encouraging us this way…

Heaven Sent

Another major heaven sent encouragement came knocking right on our door a few months ago. Literally! A woman whom we had known of came unexpectedly knocking at our gate. She was in the neighbourhood and wanted to say, “Hi”.

She continued visiting a few more times over the last few months and then during one of those visits I shared with her some of the challenges our mission was facing. She began sharing words of encouragement and solutions from her many years of experience working with organizations similar to our own. She then offered to help advise and guide us in order to revive the mission to grow and thrive better than ever before in Jesus’ Name.

We asked her to share a few words with you by way of introduction and encouragement…

A Call to Help

Seasonal Greetings to you all!

My experience with ZACCW (Zambia Association of Child and Youth Care Workers) has encouraged me to promote child welfare through quality services such as health and education in Zambia.

I am now happy to be a part of NGM’s B2S project. As a child and youth professional worker, I know to make this picture bigger is by having enough funds and promoting quality standards through capacity building and advocacy.

I have come to understand that every child has a different story (physically, emotionally and mentally). After serving for over ten years in children’s ministry, I have handled the dumped, abused, defiled, orphaned and broken. Such situations destroy the child’s circle of courage. It takes an outstretched hand with a heart of love to bring out the smile of a child.

Together we can help change these children’s future for they are destined for greatness. I am a believer who has come to understand how God can change someone’s story by extending the hand of mercy with a heart that is ready to help.

Most children are given labels such as “Orphan”, “HIV Positive” and “Street Kid” but we stand for change that will put a smile on their faces. I hereby challenge you to make this coming Christmas a unique one for these children by showing them love through gifts and a commitment to monthly support.

As of right now we only have 27 children in our B2S program. Any donation will be greatly appreciated towards the organization. I have seen children grow and thrive despite their background. So it's up to us to give these children an opportunity.

Let’s remember the love of God which He has shown unto us through the birth of Jesus Christ our Saviour.

May God richly bless you all and thank you for your support!

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Happy Holidays!

Looking Ahead…

October is a month of Thanksgiving - as we take on an attitude of gratitude this October let’s consider how our thanks can be turned into giving...

Here are some ideas:

Ultimately, look to Jesus and let Him guide you in how to best express your gratefulness as an extension of His hand of mercy toward others.

November (or LOVEmber as we termed it last year) is a month of Laying One’s Life Down for Another. As we look at our country’s history of laid down lovers and ultimately Jesus’ laid down life for us - let us consider how we may lay down our lives for others as well…

For instance:

Let go of a luxury for the month (like coffee, donuts, movies or ???) and instead give that amount towards the children and youth we work with through our school and B2S program. Then prayerfully consider making it a lifestyle - being a laid down lover of Jesus and the children - by giving that amount every month.

December, the last month of the year, is usually the end or close to the end of the fiscal year as well. GCF gives an option of Stock Donations. If giving in such a way is of interest to you, please send an e-mail to with "Stock Donations" as the subject heading. Instructions from GCF as to how to go about giving in such a manner (Company Shares, Beneficiaries of Estates, RRSP Funds, Life Insurance Policies, Investments of Funds on Loan) will then be sent your way.

2020 Vision

  • Complete 4 homes for B2S (1 bedroom for house parent, 3 bedrooms for youth - 2 bunk beds in each bedroom - kitchen, bathroom, sitting room, storage).

  • Complete at least 6 class rooms, an office, storage space and a library.

  • Complete a school hall.

  • Welcome church/mission teams to come and join us in building up the land.

  • Meet the minimum standard of care for those we care for through our B2S program and school.

Your love, prayers, words of life and financial gifts are highly valued and result in much thanksgiving to God! Be blessed and highly favoured in Jesus' Name!

Blessed are the merciful,

for they will be shown mercy.

Matthew 5:7
